Sunderland have been promoted to the Championship.
Their four-year spell in Sky Bet League One is over, who have secured promotion to the second tier with a 2-0 Wembley Stadium win over Wycombe Wanderers.
Sports4Cast were approached by Sunderland before the start of the 2021/22 season to provide simple but effective season and match MI to allow key stakeholders to evaluate impartially performance and make decisions based on a range of metrics.
As such, Sunderland were able to track performance in a much more granular way, and able to better action decisions based on impartial data. This culminated in Sports4Cast also contributing towards their new head coach search in early 2022, resulting in the appointment of Alex Neil.
The data showed he was proven to statistically improve teams that had been on a downward trend. Further, he had one of the best playoff records on the shortlist, which the data suggested would be of particular importance given the team’s likely finishing position in the league.
This decision was vindicated today as the season ended with Sunderland winning the playoffs after a 16 match unbeaten run, securing promotion back into the Championship.
